About Project

Aurora served as the communications subcontractor on the Solar in the Cities Initiative led by the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Dawn worked with the city and state governments, unions, solar installers and other solar advocates and businesses to rally around a common message and image to help to elevate awareness about solar energy given limited budgets for communications and outreach.  We recommended a sign and window cling that solar advocates and installers could post at job sites and other venues to raise awareness.  We developed the message to address two key barriers: that solar energy systems work (this was not always true in the past) and that solar works in cold climates like Minnesota. This call to action also has a companion tagline: A Brilliant Choice playing off of the need for people to proactively choose solar.  We developed a simple kit for installers and utilities to use to incorporate the educational messaging in to customer communications, a style guide, graphics for their websites, and other simple tools to increase public awareness and engagement.
